Jim Corbett National Park, nestled within the expansive Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, is renowned for its majestic landscapes and rich tiger population. Initially established as Hailey National Park in 1936, it holds the distinction of being India’s oldest and most esteemed national park. Moreover, it was here in 1973 that Project Tiger, aimed at the conservation of India’s endangered tiger species, was first launched. This unique tiger territory is celebrated as the birthplace of Project Tiger, dedicated to protecting India’s royal wild animal, the tiger.

Jeep safaris are exclusively offered within the Corbett Sanctuary Zone. Despite its thrilling nature, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the nighttime panorama. Various zones within the park provide jeep safaris, offering diverse regional sights. Morning safari timings are from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM in winter and from 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM in summer. Evening safaris are scheduled from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM in winter and from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM in summer. 

How to Reach Corbett

Ramnagar, located near Corbett National Park and serving as the headquarters of CTR, boasts excellent rail and road connectivity to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital, and Bareilly. From Ramnagar, it’s a quick half-hour drive to reach the park, which is just 15 km away from the railway station.

By Road: Ramnagar features a well-developed road network linking it to various cities. Corbett National Park is approximately 260 kilometers from Delhi, with regular bus services operated by the Uttarakhand state government connecting Delhi, Moradabad, Haldwani, and Nainital directly to the park.

By Rail: Ramnagar railway station is connected to major cities like Delhi, Moradabad, and Bareilly. Direct trains from Delhi include the Ranikhet Express, Corbett Link Express, and Kathgodam Express, facilitating convenient travel to Ramnagar.

 
 
 

Frequently Asked Questions

Spotting tigers in the national park is all dependent on luck. Knowledge about the tiger’s route is very important. The guides usually have the right and appropriate knowledge about these facts. 

Also, animals stay in there caves when the sun is at peak. Therefore early morning and late evening are the best time for spotting tigers. Along with this, the morning of summers and evenings of winters are the best time to spot the wild animals.

 

There are 9 zones for tiger sighting. And every track takes you to the heart of the park. Whether canter or jeep, both travel on the same track in the national park. No region of the forest is bad for the sighting of animals. Also, for the zone availability, the tourist needs to book in 90 days advance to the date of the visit. Every zone is better on different days. The best zone for a particular visit can be ascertained only 2- 3 ago to the visit.

 
According to the report released by the Union Environment Department, Jim Corbett national park  has the highest tiger numbers with 252 inside the reserve and 266 using the reserve.
However, sighting a tiger in the national park is all a matter of luck for the tourist. The tigers are considered to be shy and elusive animals. And therefore spotting them especially in their natural habitat is a matter of chance.
 

– Both of the vehicles are good and appropriate for traveling in Jim Corbett National park. Whether it is jeep or canter, both take the similar track route of the safari. 

The difference between both is that jeep is quite expensive but is personal. While canter is affordable.

The chance of sighting the tiger from both the vehicle is the same. Also, the jeep is ideal for 4- 6 groups of people while for bigger group or solo traveller canter is a better option. Both of these vehicles are open from the top

The best time to visit Jim Corbett is during winter which is from the month of November to February. During the winter months, Corbett experiences mild cold temperatures, which usually range from 5 degrees C to 25 degrees C (41 degrees F to 77 degrees F). This season is a paradise for wildlife lovers.
